My Story
I'm Chasity Grice, a probate and estate planning attorney born and raised in Memphis.
I've watched too many families lose land their parents spent a lifetime paying for. It usually goes like this: Mom owns her home for 70 years and finally pays off the mortgage. She passes with no will and five children. One relative moves in, stays 20 years, and dies leaving three kids of her own. Now seven people own one house, nobody can agree on anything, and ten years later the deed is still in Mom's name, headed for a tax sale.
Around here, that isn't a rare story. It's a Tuesday.
It's also completely preventable. A will, a trust, a deed handled the right way - that's usually all it takes to keep what your family built in your family's hands.
